NEA has renamed the Read Across America program with a new visual identity and a fresh mission: “Celebrate A Nation of Diverse Readers” throughout the year. Read Across America is now a year-round program aimed at promoting the joy of reading and exploration. Join NEA’s Read Across America program to celebrate a nation of diverse readers with these recommended books, authors, and teaching resources, representing a variety of experiences and cultures.
Let’s make reading diverse books part of who we are as a nation and as readers! Take NEA’s Read Across America Diverse Books Challenge and share stories with kids of all ages that are as diverse and complex as the world we live in. Follow these step to except the challenge:
- Find your books:
- Do it every month (or week or day): Make a reading connection wherever you go. Read aloud and spark discussion with students of all ages or do activities related to the books you share. NEA has discussion questions and activity suggestions to help you get started.
- Share on social media: Tell all your friends and followers on social media about your reading adventures! #ReadAcrossAmerica #NEADiverseBookChallenge
- Challenge someone else: Encourage others to read aloud to kids and introduce students to a wide range of stories that reflect all kinds of perspectives and experiences. When people make the time to read with children, they get the message that reading is important! Join NEA’s Read Across America in raising awareness about the importance, value, and fun of reading and sharing diverse books.
- Spread the Word: Download these graphics, share on your social media channels, and challenge your friends and colleagues!
When participating in NEA’s book reading challenge, if you want to explore the Dr. Seuss theme, visit our Dr. Seuss category webpage for high-quality and affordable images. These will help enhance the attractiveness of your book covers. Thank you for reading this far, and have an energetic day with your books!
